Position Purpose:
Transport Specialist drivers have a significant impact on the efficiency of the food supply chain. Not only do they ensure that goods reach their destination on schedule and in perfect condition, but they also serve as the face of our organization, actively engaging with customers to foster strong relationships
The Transport Specialist duty entails driving a variety of trucks, including tractor trailers and straight trucks, for the transportation of food products to customers. They are required to follow DOT regulations strictly and deliver the goods in a secure and punctual manner. The driver's main objective is to transport and unload food and food-related items efficiently, while complying with all safety protocols and laws enforced by the Department of Transportation.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interacts professionally with customers, suppliers, and coworkers, ensuring that all questions are answered promptly and accurately.
- Participates as a team member in the department and organization, carrying out any necessary tasks to fulfill the company's needs and objectives.
- Conducts essential safety reviews, such as pre and post-trip inspections, involving assessments of the tractor, truck, and trailer in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines. Moreover, confirms adherence to company safety standards for the tractor, truck, and trailer and takes the necessary steps as needed.
- Promptly notify authorities of any safety concerns or required maintenance.
- Adheres to all DOT stipulations and company safe driving policies.
- Expeditiously reports any safety concerns and inspects the trailer to confirm the proper loading and securing of the freight.
- Performs a thorough inspection of item quantities and checks customer invoices for loaded products.
- Verifies and completes in an accurate and clear manner all required documentation associated with freight.
- Reaches the loading area with the tractor and connects the preloaded trailer accordingly.
- Navigates a specified delivery route to drop off customer packages efficiently.
- Moving items from the trailer to assigned areas for customer storage purposes.
- Conducts examinations on items to assess their condition, evaluates scanning reports, and informs a superior about the necessity to remove orders in adherence to company regulations.
- Confirms that goods have been delivered to customers and gathers the appropriate signatures.
- Collects money, whether in cash or check form, at specified points. Safely loads returned products onto a trailer and secures the trailer doors for transit.
- Ensures that the tractor, trailer, and merchandise are always appropriately locked and secured.
- Handle damaged goods and returned items from customers by unloading them and bringing them to the driver's check-in for necessary paperwork completion. Also, unload all required equipment and materials while ensuring trailers are free of any trash.
- Maintains a daily log of service hours and accurately records them according to regulations set by the Federal DOT, state laws, and company guidelines.
- Carries out general upkeep responsibilities in the tractor, loading dock space, and maintains a clear and neat trailer area as necessary.
- Finish your shift by securing all tools and completing any essential paperwork.
- Undertakes related tasks as instructed.
Qualification:
- A year-long background in commercial driving
- Demonstrating educational qualifications involves presenting a high school diploma, GED, or an alternative recognized by the state
- Valid CDL A
- Fulfill all state licensing and certification prerequisites when required
- The stipulated age for qualification is 21 years old
- Secure a clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) that encapsulates the previous 36 months of driving activity
- Adhere to the stipulation of undergoing drug testing and criminal background checks after receiving an offer
- Pass road test
- Maintain a DOT Health Card that is current or be willing to undergo the process of obtaining a new one
- Skilled in hand-lifting and operating two-wheelers, lift gates, and other tools to move and stack product cases or freight of different sizes and weights during the work shift. The products generally weigh between 10 and 35 pounds and occasionally range from approximately 60 to 90 pounds, depending on the specific location
